Accountability

Sworn police officers are given significant power and authority in order to do their jobs and keep Ontario safe. Their conduct, both on and off-duty, must meet a very high standard as a result. Each day OPP uniform and civilian employees, as well as auxiliary officers, strive to preserve the trust and confidence of the public by delivering policing services with transparency, honesty, integrity and professionalism. When an officer falls short of these high expectations, they are held accountable.

The Law Enforcement Complaint Agency (LECA), formerly the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) began overseeing all public complaints about policing in Ontario in 2009.
